Party time!

This weekend we went to a bunch of parties. One party was at Mommy's boss' house. I got to see a lot of my friends. Here are some pictures:

Daddy was holding me in my Baby Bjorn and he was drinking a beer. Mommy and Daddy both like beer and so do I. Here I am trying to drink Daddy's beer.

Mommy's friend Archana let me chew on her finger which helped because I am still teething!

Here I am talking to Mommy's boss. He is a scientist too, so I thought he would be interested in my latest Exersaucer experiments. He suggested a few controls I should try, which I'm working on now.

Then I hung out with my Aunt Sheri. Aunt Sheri is really a very nice looking lady but you would never know it from any of her pictures because she always looks like a freak.

And here I am with Mommy's friend Gil. He was funny and said he was going to be like my wierd drunk uncle.

Exersaucer Experiments

There are all kinds of things to do on my exersaucer. Some of them require a little bit of experimentation before I can figure out exactly how they work. For example, there is a little book that has three pages. Each page has a letter and a picture on it. I noticed that when I used my hand to move the pages, they made a noise! It was pretty neat. So here's my experiment: Does the noise happen every time I move the page? And if so, how far do I have to move the page to make the noise happen?

Like any good scientist (as you've seen, I got an INFANT SCIENTIST AWARD, so I totally know what I am doing), I had to perform many replicate experiements. Here's a video of my work so far:

Mommy screwed it up a little bit because she was laughing and it made the camera shake. I swear, she just isn't responsible enough to document my experiments. I'm going to have to find someone else.

Down with rice cereal. Long live oatmeal cereal!

Remember how Mommy and Daddy decided to try to feed me SOLIDS? That was almost twenty whole days ago. They kept giving me rice cereal and I couldn't stand it. You can see in my video. To tell you the truth, I haven't been any more cooperative than I was on that first day. Okay, maybe I've swallowed a little bit on accident, but every time Mommy or my teacher try to feed it to me I try to get away from them. And they clearly do not get the picture because they KEEP TRYING. How many different times do I have to express my horrible distaste for rice cereal? Apparently an endless number of times. Mommy really thought that I just wasn't ready for solids, even though I tried to give her lots of other signs that I was.

Well. That has all changed now. Tonight Mommy put me in my Bumbo chair and brought over a bowl full of something new. Oatmeal cereal! This stuff was GREAT! I couldn't get enough of it. In fact, Mommy had to mix up some more OATMEAL CEREAL so that I would have more to eat. And I finished the whole bowl. Daddy took a video of this. Compare this video to the one of me eating rice cereal, and I think you'll see what I mean (I put it here again so you can compare and contrast)

What I did this week

Like I said in my last post, I've done a few exciting things this week! I guess I should start off with my BIGGEST NEWS.

I'm getting my first tooth!!!

That's right, you heard me. I'm on my way to a full set of chompers. Well, you gotta start somewhere. I'm starting with my lower left front tooth. It just poked through my gums yesterday or today! I've been able to feel something there for a while, but Mommy and Daddy only figured it out this morning when Mommy let me chew on her finger and felt something sharp. I know Mommy is worried about breastfeeding me when I have teeth but I promise not to bite her... too many times! Anyhow, no pictures yet, but I'll put one up when we have one!

Another thing I did this week was participate in a research study at Duke. Mommy took me over there on Thursday morning and we met a nice lady who brought us to a room. Mommy filled out some paperwork and I tried to help her by crumpling it up (I love crumpling up paper!). Then the lady took a picture of us! Then we went to another room and I sat in a bouncy chair in front of a big TV screen. There was a man in here who told us that the TV could detect where my eyes were looking. Isn't that cool? I thought so. Anyhow, some pictures and movies showed on the TV of like, blocks and flowers and a doggie. They showed a picture of some blocks and then the next time they showed it one of the blocks had gone away! I kept looking to see where the block was but I couldn't find it. There was some other stuff too. I was very good and watched the whole thing very closely, just like I was suppossed to. Mommy sat right behind me while I did it. Then the man showed Mommy a video that showed what had been on the screen and what I had been looking at. She thought that was pretty neat! After it was over we went back to the first room and they gave me a certificate and a T-shirt! Here's a picture of those:

The T-shirt is too big for me now, but I can't wait until I can wear it, because I'll look so cool! Apparently they do all kinds of studies like this over at Duke so the lady said that we might get called to do another one. I hope so!

Another thing that happened this week was that Mommy took me to Babies R Us and bought me a couple new toys. One of them goes on my carseat and I play with it on my way to school. The other two are ones that I play with at home. This one is my favorite so far.

Unfortunately it also seems to be the doggie's favorite, because he chewed part of it off while I was at school yesterday! Daddy had to trim off what was left so I didn't hurt myself.

I'm still trying to eat rice cereal and I guess I'm getting a little better at it, but I still really don't like it. My teacher feeds me some every morning at school. I swallow a little bit so I think Mommy has decided that I've eaten enough of it that if I were going to have a reaction to it I would have. So she said we might try something new soon. I hope its something that is better than rice cereal!

It is my first Memorial Day this weekend and we have a lot of fun parties to go to. We went to one today actually. It was a party to meet baby Sophie, who is Mommy and Daddy's friends new baby. At that party we met another baby that had the EXACT SAME birthday as me! This baby also came late and had to be induced to come out. He was born in London, where my Daddy used to live, but his parents are both from Ireland. It was neat to meet him!

Our pool opens this weekend too so maybe I can get Mommy and Daddy to take me there!
Hope you have a good holiday weekend!

Working out

Look how strong I am now! I can lift my whole front off of the ground.

Oh also, here's a picture of me and Mommy. She got a new haircut yesterday and G-G wanted to see a picture of it. I don't like it as much because its a lot shorter and I can't grab onto it as easily. Bummer.

We've done a few exciting things this week but I don't have time to tell you about them now. I promise to update my blog this weekend though!

Tag!

Rosco's Mommy said that I needed to write some random things about myself, so here goes!

1. I love my doggie and kitties. I didn't even notice the doggie and kitties for a long time, but now I do and I am obsessed with them. When I see them I smile really big! Fortunately they're all very nice and patient with me and they don't mind that my way of petting them is really more like grabbing and hitting!

2. I am half British, but I don't know if I will ever like Marmite. Daddy is on the 'LOVE IT' side while Mommy is firmly on the 'HATE IT' side.

3. I like my Bumbo chair, but sometimes I just need to get out. If you're a baby and you ever need to know how to get out of your Bumbo chair, this is how you do it:

4. I still don't like eating rice cereal. In fact, I think Mommy gave up on that for a while.

5. I tell the blocks that I love them all equally, but I really like the green block best.

6. I'm a stud. I flirt with all the pretty girls.

7. I'm a couch potato. I think the TV is pretty cool. I only wish I could stay up past 7pm so I could watch the good shows!

Now I get to tag someone! I tag Mommy's friend Melissa, because she has a baby coming in July or August and she hasn't updated her blog in like, a million years!

Coolest toy ever!

When I am at school there are a lot of new fancy toys that I don't have at my house. One of these is an Exersaucer. We have two of them at school but NONE of them at home. Daddy thought it would be pretty cool if we had one at home too, so he researched them on the internet and bought one for me. There is SO MUCH to do on it, I can't even believe it. I just sit there in the middle and go to town. Also I can jump up and down in it, which is fun!

As you can see, Beamish likes it too.

The Big S.

Today, Mommy and Daddy decided to try something new with me. They fed me some sort of cereal. Up until now I've only eaten breastmilk, but at my last doctors appointment he said that Mommy could feed me SOLIDS. OMG!

That was about two weeks ago (I forgot to tell you that I was 15 lbs, 3 ounces and 26 inches long!) and I thought Mommy had forgotten about it because I had not seen these mysterious SOLIDS anywhere. Then today when Mommy came home from work, Daddy put me in my special Bumbo chair and Mommy brought over a little bowl of white stuff that did NOT look like breastmilk.

Its funny, because Mommy had a look at her baby book and she first ate cereal when she was SIX WEEKS OLD! Things sure were different then, because that was normal. Interestingly, she apparently 'took time to accept' meats and egg yolk, which are two foods that she still doesn't like. In fact, Mommy and Daddy don't eat any meat at all, and Mommy eats eggs only begrudgingly or when they are IN something and thus unidentifiable as eggs. Thats interesting. Also, it says that Mommy was 'not fond of peas' which she STILL isn't.

Anyhow! I'm getting off track here. SOLIDS. I was NOT SURE what to make of the rice cereal. Not sure at all. Here's a video:

I may have swallowed a little bit inadvertently. Mostly I just smeared it all over myself and my outift (Mommy and Daddy forgot to put a bib on me for some reason, I'm not sure WHAT they were thinking!). I was really interested in the bowl the cereal came in though, and in the spoon that delivered it to my mouth. So we'll see, maybe I'll warm up to this sometime soon! I'll keep you posted!
