Smiling, not smiling, or a big, sad tear

Sometimes I smile at Mommy and Daddy. Then they try to catch it on camera, or on video or something. Of course I'm not going to make that easy for them. Here are three videos Mommy took while she was trying to get me to smile.

1. First try.

In this video, I had just been smiling at Mommy, but I stopped when she got out the camera.

2. Another try.

This time I actually rewarded Mommy with a smile!

3. Big, sad tear.

Okay, I'm tired of this now. Look at the big, sad tear on my face.

I'm big!

Yesterday was my one month birthday, so today I had my one month well child appointment with the doctors. My doctor really liked me because I didn't cry at all and I smiled and said 'goo' to him. He said I was a really easygoing baby! Mommy got to ask him questions about my gooky eyes too (he said this is from blocked tear ducts which are pretty common, and showed Mommy a way to try to unblock them). Hopefully we can get this straightened out, because now it always looks like Mommy and Daddy don't take care of me or wash my face or anything, even though they do WAY more than I wish they would.

They also weighed me and measured me. I weigh 10 pounds, 11 ounces. I am 22 and 1/4 inches long and my head is 39 and 1/2 cm around. For all of these I'm in the 75th percentile - that means I'm bigger and have a bigger head than 75% of baby boys my age! I think I must take after my Daddy.

Jealous

Those cats are at it again. Yesterday mommy fed and burped me, but then I fell asleep up there. The burping position is very close to my favorite position - bug style! So what did you expect. That cat Jasmine was JEALOUS though. If I was going to be in mommy's lap SHE wanted to be in mommy's lap too. So she jumped up there and went to sleep on mommy's other side.

Stylin'

I know you all like my favorite blanket. Some of mommy's friends gave it to me when they came to visit us. What they didn't know was that I already had the matching hat, which ANOTHER one of mommy's friends had given me at her baby shower, back when I was Studs.

When I go outside, I need a hat and a blanket, so I usually ask mommy if I can wear both. Then everyone who sees me tells me how cute and stylish I am (well, they tell me how cute I am anyway).

Male pattern baldness

I thought that male pattern baldness didn't affect you until you were old. Yet here I am, four weeks old, and I've totally got a receding hairline.

I look like mommy's friend Marc. Or Maddox Jolie-Pitt (except that his mommy did that to him on purpose, who knows why!).

Does this mean I'm losing my pretty reddish-blond hair that mommy is so jealous of? I think so!

Snug bug

Aah. Napping is even better when I'm curled up under my blanket.

Fur trouble

I'm still a baby, but I already have four kitties. And a doggie. So far I don't care too much about any of them, except when the doggie barks really loud in my ear while I am sleeping in my papasan. I'm not crazy about THAT.

Anyhow. The kitties don't really get that some things are mine and some things are theirs. I mean, I don't play with their little catnip mice. But they always play with my stuff!

Like, for example... here is Alton and Cherry on my changing table. Thats where I get my dirty diapers taken off! They don't have dirty diapers! What do they think they're doing?

The one called Jasmine is the worst. Jasmine really likes my papasan chair. She will sit in it whether it is empty or not.

(Don't worry, Mommy was right there and only let Jasmine stay there long enough to get a picture! And anyway, I didn't even flinch when Jasmine sat on me)

And the other day when I was having tummy time? Jasmine crawled under my activity mat and hid there.

I also caught Cherry playing with some of the toys hanging from it. The nerve!

Just wait until I can control my arms and legs. I'll show these kitties who is the boss!

Easily entertained

I love my mobile.

It plays 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'. I could sit and stare at it for hours. Mommy just wishes it didn't need to be re-wound up every 2 minutes.

Tummy time

I know I need to do it, but I am not nuts about tummy time.

Seal flippers

Yesterday, Mommy and Daddy took me for a walk around the neighborhood. It was cold out (for North Carolina, anyway) so they put me in my winter coat.

Its a 0-9 month size, so it was a little bit big. My hands didn't reach down to the end of the sleeves and when I moved my arms around, I looked like a seal.[]

My first bath

Yesterday I turned three weeks old. Can you believe it? I can't. It seems like such a long time ago that I was Studs.
One thing we did to celebrate my three week birthday was take a real bath.

I liked it. I didn't cry at all.
I sure didn't like getting spongebaths, which I had to do before I got a bellybutton.

Check it out!

A smile! See? I told you!!

Smiling at Daddy

I am starting to smile. At least I think I am - its hard for Mommy and Daddy to tell whether or not I am doing it on purpose, but I'm not just practicing it while I sleep anymore. So far Mommy hasn't managed to take a picture of me smiling though. Here I am sitting with my Daddy - maybe I'm smiling and you just can't see it!

Kung Fu Fighter

I know it looks like I am sleeping, but really I am practicing my kung fu.

First playdate

I had my first playdate yesterday when Eloise and her mommy came over. They made us lunch and everything. It was really exciting. Here's a picture of Eloise and I hanging out. I'm in my swing, which is my favorite thing.

Little hands

Even though I think I'm a pretty big boy, I guess if you consider the evidence I'm probably not.

I sure did get my mommy's long fingers. Maybe I'll play an instrument one day too.

Buggin'

I like to sleep like a bug. Here's a picture of me sleeping like a bug on Mommy's chest.

We were watching a movie. Mommy got tired of sitting up and decided to lay down on the couch instead. This was fine with me. I'm pretty adaptable.

Sleepy

There are a couple of things that I like to do. Actually, they're pretty much the only things that I do:

1. Sleep
2. Eat
3. Make dirty diapers
4. Cry

When I came home from the hospital, I had a hard time doing the sleeping part because I have all of these strange arms and legs that I never knew about before. When I am sleeping, sometimes they would move around and scare me. So mommy and daddy would wrap me up in a burrito of blankets. Then the strange arms and legs wouldn't bother me.

Now I'm 2 and a half weeks old - a big boy! I don't need the burrito anymore. See?

And that yucky umbilical cord stump? I don't have that anymore. I have a real bellybutton now.

My first blog

My mommy likes blogging a lot. She says its a good way to let people know what we're up to without having to remember to write emails to people, which she usually forgets to do.

So I thought, why not? I'm going to have a blog too.

I decided to call it Owen Bug because my favorite way to sit with my mommy is curled up like a bug on her chest. Mommy and Daddy call me Bug now.

I'll try to remember to keep you posted on what I'm up to, so remember to keep checking!

love, Owen
